Leaving a gift to Stratford East in your Will is a lasting way to support the theatre you love and help secure its future. Whatever the size, your gift can help us continue making ambitious theatre, nurturing artists, and keeping our doors open to everyone.
If you have already included Stratford East in your Will, or are considering doing so, we would be very grateful to hear from you. Sharing your plans with us is entirely your choice, but it gives us the opportunity to thank you personally and to understand how we can honour your gift in the future. Any information you share will be treated with care and confidence.
How to leave a gift in your Will
There are several ways you can leave a gift to Stratford East, including a specific sum of money (a pecuniary gift) or a percentage or share of your estate (a residuary gift).
If you already have a Will, you may be able to add a gift to Stratford East through a codicil. We recommend speaking to your solicitor or professional adviser about the best option for you.
As Stratford East is a registered charity, gifts left to us are normally exempt from Inheritance Tax. You should seek professional advice about your individual circumstances.
Suggested wording
The following wording may be useful to your professional adviser when preparing or updating your Will.
Residuary gift
Either a percentage or the remaining amount once all the other gifts and expenses have been arranged:
‘I give all/a share of (please state fraction/percentage) the residue of our estate to Pioneer Theatres Ltd t/a Stratford East, Gerry Raffles Square, London, E15 1BN, Registered Charity Number 233801, to be applied for the general purposes of the Stratford East, and I direct that the receipt of a proper officer for the time being of Stratford East shall be a complete discharge to our Executors.’
Pecuniary gift
A specific amount of money:
‘I give to Pioneer Theatres Ltd t/a Stratford East, Gerry Raffles Square, London, E15 1BN, Registered Charity Number 233801 to be applied for the general purposes of Stratford East, the sum of [amount in figures, amount in words] and I direct that the receipt of a proper officer for the time being of Stratford East shall be a complete discharge to our Executors.’
