In 2007, a mysterious album featuring Nazi-era photographs arrived at the desk of a U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum archivist. As curators unraveled the shocking truth behind the images, the album soon made headlines and ignited a debate that reverberated far beyond the museum walls.
Based on real events, HERE THERE ARE BLUEBERRIES tells the story of these historical photographs—what they reveal about the perpetrators of the Holocaust, and our own humanity.
During the run, audiences will be invited to engage in a curated series of post-show conversations featuring moderated conversations with leading ethicists and scholars, who explore the complex issues raised by the play. A ticket to a performance of HERE THERE ARE BLUEBERRIES is required to attend any of these events. Dates and speakers to be confirmed. These sessions are programmed by FASPE (Fellowships at Auschwitz for the Study of Professional Ethics), Tectonic Theater Project’s Content and Conversation Partner, in collaboration with Tectonic Theater Project and Stratford East.
Transformation of Norms and Complicity as the New Normal
What does it mean to be complicit in the structures of wrongdoing? Drawing from themes raised in Here There Are Blueberries, speakers consider how harmful behaviours become normalised in professional contexts, and what this reveals about ethical decision-making today.
Why Study the Holocaust?
Why do we continue to study the Holocaust; why does the Holocaust remain so much a part of contemporary pedagogy, literature and other arts, ethics and more? This discussion asks why continued engagement with Holocaust history is essential.
The Sins of Our Fathers
Can an individual hold conflicting identities – such as being both a loving parent and a perpetrator of atrocity? Interrogating how we compartmentalise our actions, this conversation explores the ethical boundaries between private and professional selves.
