The theme of the festival is Kingdom United, as Rikki Beadle-Blair says, ‘in which our autumn crop of Angelic Tales playwrights dive heart-first into unexplored depths of multi-culturalism in Brexit Britain’:
By Duncan Macinnes. A retired police detective battles Alzheimers, determined to solve an historic crime and finally right a miscarriage of justic against Jamaican migrant back in 1950's Yorkshire. A brilliantly atmospheric whodunnit, bursting with combined Northern and Caribbean charm.
Acclaimed writer and director Rikki Beadle-Blair and Team Angelica have shortlisted some of the most interesting and thought-provoking pieces of fresh writing to be developed in these rehearsed readings and then put on our stage.
Duncan Macinnes
Duncan is an actor, writer and producer. His short film Echo Road was received by numerous festivals across the globe and received support from Team Angelica, Adidas and Channel 4.
Duncan’s play Waste was written for Ambush - a festival of short plays for The Bush Theatre. Why are We Whispering? a one man show, was also featured in the Home Theatre Project for Theatre Royal Stratford East.
Dagger Lane, Duncan’s first full length play marks the first of a trilogy of plays surrounding racial equality and mental health.
I wanted to write something about my home town of Hull. I am immensely proud of the city and its history which is why I have chosen to look back in time in this play. Creating work that truly tests the boundaries of what a theatre play is capable of doing is what motivates me the most. Having a dialogue with the audience about real issues, reflecting the world in which we live now whilst also making a trip to the theatre an entertaining and exhilarating experience are paramount on my agenda. In terms of where I’m keen to go next? The sky’s the limit
