Accessibility at Stratford East

WHEELCHAIR ACCESS
The main entrance to the theatre has step-free access. On the ground level, there is a spacious foyer, wheelchair-accessible Box Office and toilets, with permanent ramp entrance to the Bar. Within the auditorium, there are six wheelchair spaces in the stalls, accessed via doors at the front of the building (at the back of the stalls), which can easily be evacuated if necessary.

ASSISTANCE DOGS

Assistance dogs are welcome in the auditorium. Please inform Box Office when you book.

DEAF OR HARD OF HEARING

The theatre has a Sennheiser tourguide system for people who are Deaf or hard of hearing.

CAPTIONING
Captioning is similar to television subtitling and gives Deaf and hard of hearing people access to live performances. We offer a captioned performance for most shows, which is signposted on a show's booking page as well at the bottom of this page. To book a ticket for a captioned performance, please book directly with our Box Office on tickets@stratfordeast.com

AUDIO DESCRIPTION
Audio description is a live verbal commentary via headphones on the visual elements of a production as it unfolds for blind and partially-sighted people. We offer an audio described performance for most shows, which is signposted on a show's booking page as well at the bottom of this page. To book a ticket for an audio described performance, please book directly with our Box Office on tickets@stratfordeast.com

TOUCH TOURS

One hour before an audio-described performance, blind and partially sighted audience members are invited to interact with the set, costumes and props and gain a detailed description of what’s on stage. Book your space in advance by emailing our Box Office team on tickets@stratfordeast.com

SIGNED PERFORMANCES (BSL-interpreted performances)
We offer a sign language interpreted performance for D/deaf British Sign Language Users for most shows, which is signposted on a show's booking page as well at the bottom of this page. To book a ticket for a BSL-interpreted performance, please book directly with our Box Office on tickets@stratfordeast.com

RELAXED PERFORMANCES
Relaxed Performances are open to all audience members, and can be useful for those with an Autistic Spectrum Condition, sensory and communication disorder, learning disability and anyone who would benefit from a more relaxed theatre environment. During these performances, audience members are welcome to move in and out of the auditorium and make noise as and when they need to. For Relaxed Performances, the show will be adapted to reduce or remove loud sounds and flashing lights and there will be a separate chill-out room for any audience members that require it. Visual stories are available in advance for relaxed performances, which give an indication of a show’s main plot points for those who may find this information useful.

RELAXED ENVIRONMENT PERFORMANCES
Relaxed Environment performances are open to all audience members, and can be useful for those with an Autistic Spectrum Condition, sensory and communication disorder, learning disability and anyone who would benefit from a more relaxed theatre environment. For Relaxed Environment performances, there won’t be any changes to the show itself but movement in and out of the auditorium is allowed, there is less emphasis on the audience being quiet during the performance and there will be a separate chill-out room for any audience members that require it.

COMPANION TICKETS

We want everyone to be able to access performances at Stratford East. If you identify as disabled and cannot attend a show without the support of a companion or carer, we can offer you a companion ticket free of charge to make it easier for you to see a show. Companion tickets are not available online, so please contact the Box Office directly on 020 8534 0310 or email tickets@stratfordeast.com to book your tickets.
