The critically acclaimed musicians of Chineke! make their Stratford East debut with a kaleidoscopic programme for string quartet. Bookended by well-loved classics by Mendelssohn and Haydn, the evening focuses in on work by two contrasting African-American composers: rising star Brian Nabors draws on jazz, funk, R&B and gospel alongside contemporary classical music, while William Grant Still was arguably the first Black composer to gain prominence in the world of American classical music in the 1930s.
