 The Great Extension

By Cosh Omar

16th October - 14th November 2009

We send out a post-show survey to all our customers with email addresses and collect their responses.  These are then reproduced in full (except for any personal details).  Read what they thought (Adobe PDF).

"...tremendous fun...the play teems with irreverant insights into immigrant life." Time Out, 4 stars

"...a rollercoaster of a ride, full of unseen twists and turns, that keeps us on our toes and wildly amused." What's On Stage, 4 stars

Hassan, a second generation Turk, leads a blissful, if somewhat eccentric bachelor life in London's suburbs. The building work on his extension is progressing well despite legal threats from his reactionary neighbour, and his father's wealth ensures gainful employment does not interfere too much in a life replete with wine, women and self-imposed amnesia.

"...the play bursts with rude life and laughter." The Guardian

That is until he wakes up one morning to the devastating realisation that something happened the night before that could have the direst consequences for him and his care-free lifestyle; something he... just can't quite remember!

"...entertaining multi-cultural hotchpotch." The Stage

Like any great farce, events come to a head as two families with very different traditions clash, and insults, accusations and several household items start to fly.  Throw in a transgender houseboy, politically correct Policeman and a neighbour convinced that every hijab hides a terrorist, and things can only go from bad to worse...

"...not a dry seat in the house" Xeher

Directing the show will be Theatre Royal Stratford East's artistic director Kerry Michael, joined by the creative team of designer Yannis Thavoris; assistant director Matthew Blacklock; lighting designer Prema Mehta and sound designer Theo Holloway.

Joining the cast will be Dimitri Andreas, Faraz Ayub, Carol Been, Ben Bennett, Jack Chissick, Amerjit Deu, Akin Gazi, Raj Ghatak, Jacob Krichefski, Cosh Omar, Sharona Sassoon and Ruby Visaria.
