POETRY SEGMENT: PART I
Voices and Vocations - An exploration of poetry.
An exploration of poetry by those involved in the art of poetry.
Presentation and discussion of poetry in and from Nigeria.
Includes screening of newly commissioned documentary on poetry by director and filmmaker Remi Vaughan-Richards. The documentary features poet crusader Odia Ofeimun, contemporary poets Sage Hasson, Donna Obaseki-Ogunnaike and the ethnically inspired Ivori.
Also includes ‘invited mic’ session of memorable Nigerian poems, with readings by poet/writer-directors Olusola Oyeleye and Debo Oluwatuminu.
For those who love poetry, who love discussing poetry and who want to learn more about poetry from the same country that birthed such literary lions as Soyinka and Achebe.
Remi Vaughan-Richards - Filmmaker
Remi is a vibrant and versatile director covering commercials, documentary and drama.
She has recently directed an award winning docu-drama One Small Step featured in the New York African Film Festival and currently on tour in USA; Scent of the Streets a documentary on Area Girls for BBC News as well as the groundbreaking 52 part TV Drama Wetin Dey for BBC World Service Trust in Nigeria.
Her career began in 1990 in the Art Department working on films such as Judge Dredd (Sylvester Stallone), and Stanley Kubrick’s Eyes Wide Shut (Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman).
In 1995 she became a respected storyboard artist, visualizing the action, camera and mood for her clients such as the BBC and 51st State (Samuel L Jackson).
Since 2000 her skills and experience have added an extra dimension to her work as a director. Remi’s mission is to create a slate of cutting edge feature films and documentaries that will focus a sharp lens onto contemporary Africa.
