Nkechi Anenyeonu (Vera Ephraim)

Theatre & Drama, Lagos.

Specializing in dance, drama and movement theatre, Vera Ephraim is known for versatility in connecting African traditional dances and contemporary dance, together with acting and movement. Choreographed and performed dance genres such as hip-hop, salsa, afro-caribbean and afro-beat. Stage performances with the likes of Hugh Masakela and Femi Kuti, Orlando Julius Ekemode and Fatai Rolling Dollar.

Vera has over ten years of experience in acting for film and (live) television. Other skills include Djembé drumming and various other African percussions.

She was awarded best-featured dancer in 2003, presented by AMEN( Awards for Musical Excellence in Nigeria)

Synopsis

Why live up to the ways in which societies are portraying you? Are you really that inferior being, subjected to your parents, your partner, fashion, the cosmetic industry, your own suffering? Why accept this, why cling to tradition and culture, when people worldwide get crippled by society and are forced to hide themselves? You are not a puppet!

Transformation appeals to everyone out there: Embrace what life decides to throw at you, sour and sweet, and find courage to create your own story with it, however difficult it may seem.

Once you dare taking charge of your own life, you can inspire others, being a stone in the pond that causes ripples of change. If we join forces rather than subjecting to cultural manipulation, transformation of societies can become reality too.

The Dancer in this combined art piece explores the positive and negative sides of her life, shows her doubts and fears, her submission to a strong African tradition, to finally discover her true colours and creative abilities. She pours them out over a giant canvas, thus painting new possibilities and sharing her victory with us.
