NIGERIAN TRADITIONAL DRESS WORKSHOP

Thurs 9 Aug 2012

About

Kids Week school holiday workshop for young people led by award-winning Nigerian movie costume designer Iyen Agbonifo.

The workshop will give children the opportunity to see how a traditional headdress is made.

They will also take part in drawing activities.

This is a wonderful opportunity for local families to get involved with what’s happening here at Nigeria house. We hope people will come along and join in the fun!

This workshop is for aged 8-13 years

Part of Kids Week.

Iyen Agbonifo

Actually, only a few people are aware that behind those glamorous faces on the tube are professionals whose duty it is to enhance the natural looks of those on set. They call them costumiers, or better still, make-up artistes.
To this class of professionals belongs Iyen Agbonifo, a decendant of the famous Agbonifo-Obaseki family of the Ancient Benin kingdom.

Meanwhile, Agbonifo's break as a make-up artiste came in 1998 when she was assigned the duty of making up the artistes that featured in the award winning epic movie, Igodo. It was the same movie that gave her the THEMA 99 Best Costumier and Make-up Artist award. Ever since that time, there has been no going back in her career.. she is currently pursuing a Masters degree at the University of Lagos.

She has featured in the production of movies, like Ighodo, Izaga, Evil Thing and Adesuwa in which she received an Achievement in Costume Design(AMAA AWARDS 2012) among others..

I.Y. Touch was coined from her name. The outfit is into costuming and make-up for different occasions.  She is currently the President of the Creative Designers Guild of Nigeria
